METHYL CELLULOSE (MC) |
| |
- Appearance: white or off-white, odourless and tasteless powder, innoxious, light hydroscopicity.
- Dissolubility: It almost does not dissolve in ethanol, ethyl ether, chloroform. It can form clear and suspended viscous solution in the mixture of water and glacial acetic acid or the mixture of ethanol and chloroform (1 : 1). It swells quickly in the hot water of 80-90 ? and dissolves quickly when the temperature drops. Its aqueous solution is quite stable at normal temperature. MC gel formed by high temperature can display reversible change from gel to solution in turn by heating and cooling. It has good humectant and dispersing, binding, thickening, emulsifying, water retention and film forming properties. MC film has excellent toughness, flexibility and clearance. Because of its non-ionic it can be compatible with other emulsifiers but easy to salt out, and show stable in the range of PH 2-12.
